Last week we took at a look at the building of the Amazing Qualatex Maze at the Balloon Jam in Belgium and promised that we would return to show you the completed designs.
The maze, brainchild of Didier Dvorak, a balloon artist and enthusiast from Switzerland, took 25 people to build over 1,000 hours and used 100,000 balloons. Most of the balloons used were Qualatex Quicklinks, a balloon that we at VIP Balloons use, as they are able to tie at both ends of the balloon. You can see from the picture above that the walls were double thickness and stood over 7′ tall ensuring that those entering the maze couldn’t cheat! There were sections of the maze which allowed those inside peep holes to see through to the areas they might be wanting to reach.
At the beginning of the maze, festooned by giant balloon flowers, several of the balloon artists who helped to build the design were on hand to welcome and guide visitors through.
Once inside the maze there were several rooms to find, each following the theme of circus.
This clown appears to be balancing on a tower of bricks with a dog on his extended hand.
In this room, hidden within the maze, a hippo can be seen dancing on top of a ball.
Another room has a sculpture of an elephant.
No circus would be complete without a ring master and this one is being held up high by a lion!
Deep inside the maze there was a darkened area with this fantastic picture of a tiger’s mouth. This was created by packing lots of small balloons tightly together to form to desired shape. Black foil balloons surrounded the area to keep the space in darkness.
Hopefully once you had found all of the rooms, these people were on hand to congratulate you!
Meanwhile at the balloon jam, severals balloon artists from all over the world joined together to jam – sharing ideas and inspiration on how they turn balloons into art.
I hope you have enjoyed looking at these photos from the event – our final picture has to be that of a few members of the crew who built the maze.
