Last March we took part in ‘Papworth on Parole’ as VIP Balloon Artist, Samuel Stamp-Dod shouted, “I’m a balloon artist – get me out of here!”
Following our fund raising, where we managed to raise over £300 ourselves (to add to a group figure of over £4,000) we were invited to a celebration at their Ipswich centre.
We were treated to a performance from several of the centre’s users, where their enjoyment of singing was obvious. The money we raised will help this centre continue to support the users who regularly go to join in activities such as this.
The choir sang some beautiful and appropriate songs such as, ‘No Place I’d Rather Be’, ‘I’m a Believer’ and ‘Lean on Me’. Every member of the choir loved to sing and even some of the audience joined in with singing and danced along!
The highlight for me was when Papworth user, Louise, sang solo a piece that she had written herself. The tune and lyrics were so good that I have included them here for you.
During my time visiting Papworth, I was encouraged by the great teamwork that both the staff and users have together. I had the great pleasure of meeting up with Hayley, who came down to support us during our ‘Jailbreak’ who, despite having Downs Syndrome, you can also find working on reception every Friday.
