At VIP Balloons, we are always getting asked things like “how do you make the balloons?” and “is is easy to learn?” Well, in answer to these questions, we decided to create a summer school session where the children could learn how to create a minion out of modelling and foil balloons. So, on Friday 14th August 2015, we ran our first Minion Balloon School.
At the beginning of the session, we gave the children each; a round, yellow foil balloon, some cardboard templates (for the minion’s eyes), a pair of scissors and black marker pens. We gave them step by step instructions on how to draw the face and then showed them how to inflate it, make the base of the minion and how to attach the two pieces together. As the children set to work, a number of them needing help tying knots and twisting balloons, we could see how much they were enjoying creating the models.
They then moved on to make latex minions (above) which are a bit harder to do but the children managed just fine. Many of the kids, especially two of the boys, adored it when the balloons would fly of the pumps if they hadn’t held on tight enough; this was a great laugh and gave the room more of a relaxed and fun feel to it.
We then created a massive minion using much larger balloons and working as a team. The kids took it in turn to hold the balloon on the electric air pump or push their foot on the pedal.
Once the balloons were to the right size, the children took the balloons over to the pole and helped attach them to it, creating the minion’s body and head. Once the balloons were all put in the right place then one of the kids drew an eye and a mouth on the sculpture to finish the minion’s face. They were all delighted with the finished sculpture and a couple of the children said that “The best part of the Balloon School was making the big minion.”
After all the minion making was finished we took photos with all of the minions and the children we each awarded with a certificate for attending the Balloon School and a minion goody-bag.
All in all the Minion Balloon School was a big hit with the kids and their parents, so much so, we are now putting on another Balloon School but this time with Blossom, Pixie Palace’s pixie fairy. We will be making all sorts of different models, for more info contact us or the Pixie Palace!
