For those of us in the Balloon World, Chris Adamo is a giant. Not only does he stand over 6′ tall, but he is also a well respected leader in our industry.
Samuel Stamp-Dod, from VIP Balloons, first met Chris at 2018 The World Balloon Convention in San Diego, however he had followed his progress through the industry for many years.
Chris runs his own businesses, The Balloon Crew and Balloons Online in Sidney, Australia and is know for creating many eye catching designs using the latest trend – organics.
The trend for Organic Balloons has now reached such a height, balloon artists from across the world are recreating designs that Chris has made popular. BAPIA (Balloon and Party Industry Alliance) the balloon association here in the UK, invited Chris to cross the globe and share his knowledge and skills to balloons artists here in the UK.
When Samuel met Chris in San Diego, Chris was asked to provide the decor for the After Show Party. This involved transforming a traditional hotel function room into a dark cavern. Chris had a very short window to work in the room, as classes were scheduled in the room immediately before, so he relied on a team of volunteers to help him. Samuel volunteered and had his first experience of working along side the giant that is Chris Adamo.
Chris has developed a way of breaking down each part of his designs into manageable pieces that team members can take on and join together to create something much bigger – something that Samuel uses when he takes on larger designs himself.
This was the entrance to the After Show Party – an imposing black tunnel with silver teeth like balloons that dare you to enter.
The stage area, show through the tunnel, gives you a glimpse as to the organic designs in black and silver that filled the room.
This design was so impressive that it made it’s way onto the Qualatex Calendar that is used by balloons artists throughout the world.
During his tour of the UK, Chris visited Southampton, Birmingham, London, Glasgow and Ashbourne in Ireland. During his tour he trained hundreds of artists and shared his philosophy on why we do what we do.
Chris has, for a long time, been an inspiration for Samuel.
“It was great meeting up with Chris again”, explained Samuel, “We had lots of happy memories from San Diego and, not only seeing how he works with teams of people that he’s only just met, but hearing his thoughts on how to approach large scale jobs, was invaluable”
