Bury St Edmunds has a wonderful little place called The Handmade Shop and Gallery. Tucked between gift shops and florists, this wonderful little gallery could outshine those in London.
The other week when visiting, I met Carola, of Carola Smedjebacka Design, a glass artist who showcases some of her work in the shop.
Originally from Finland, Carola moved to the UK in October 2002. 10 years later she graduated with a degree in Art and Design from Colchester School of Art and is now establishing herself as a Glass Artist making hand crafted Kiln Formed Glass pieces in her studio in Bury St Edmunds. All designs are her own and each piece is unique.
Carola has an amazing eye for design and her pieces were beautiful and were begging me to pick them up and feel them. Being in the shop at the time of my visit, she was able to explain to me about the firing process and her passion.
Next time you are in Bury, pop into the shop and open your eyes to the wonder local artists we have. If you can’t make it to Bury, next Monday we will be showcasing another artist from the shop and sharing some of their work here.
At VIP Balloons we love art and design in whatever form and each Monday we will post ideas and examples that we have found and like. Often we use these pieces to inspire us with our creations. If you would like us to create some balloon art or decor based on something you have seen, contact us and we will work with you to come up with ideas.
