For those of you who know Samuel Stamp-Dod of VIP Balloons well, you will know that he looks up to many Balloon Artists for inspiration and last weekend at The Blackpool Balloon Bash he was able to meet up with one of them again.

Phileas Flash (aka British born performer Rupert Appleyard) is based in Canada and has been capturing hearts worldwide with his brilliant brand of balloon art, charming comedy and crazy magic. Armed only with a little wit, a lot of talent and a big bag of balloons he’s travelled all over the globe and amazed audiences everywhere from Iceland to Egypt, Australia to Dominican Republic and everywhere in between.

Samuel first met Phileas at the World Balloon Convention in 2018 where they worked out that they both originate from Ipswich and have several balloon friends in common. As soon as Samuel heard he was coming back to the UK to teach he immediately booked onto the Bash as the designs Phileas creates have been a big inspiration to Samuel for many years.

In his classes at The Blackpool Balloon Bash, Phileas taught the delegates how to ‘Unleash their Creativity’ and to ‘Face the Holidays’.
Unlike many twisters who create designs for children to take away, Phileas works on showcase pieces that take many hours to create and often are shared the world over on digital platforms.

Those who attended the Bash had a glimpse of how these designs are created and, as a balloon artist who makes similar large-scale designs, Samuel was in his element. “I simply love what Phileas creates and seeing his work in person was great.” said Samuel, “I can’t wait to try these designs out for myself.”
