A few months ago, at a networking event arranged by ISSBA (Ipswich and Suffolk Small Business Association) balloon artist, Samuel Stamp-Dod met with Anthony Wooding of Kersey’s Solicitors in Ipswich and got talking about their mutual love of art. Following this conversations, Anthony commissioned VIP Balloons to recreate their logo from balloons.
Usually, when creating art from balloons, VIP Balloons would inflate the balloons, twist them, arrange them and create something three dimensional, however, Kersey’s were wanting something that would last longer and could be hung on the wall, so a new idea had to be found.
Samuel stared by creating the green back ground by attaching hundred of un-inflated 5″ balloons. These were all individually sewn onto a matching mount board using embroidery thread. The balloons were layered like tiles and allowed to fall over one another. This process took several hours and had to be completed before Samuel could move on to sculpting the logo that would go in front.
Kersey has a very swirly ‘K’ that needed to be reproduced within the art and to do this, Samuel first inserted thin wire into a selection of different sized modelling balloons. The wire within the balloons helped to hold the shape and also offered fixing points in which to secure each one onto the backdrop. Several attempts were made to ensure that we kept the exact proportions and shapes within the logo before the design was ready to send off to be framed.
VIP Balloons took the artwork to Lamden’s Gallery where their experts prepared and framed the art, ready for hanging.
The artwork can now be seen in Kersey’s office in Lloyds Avenue in Ipswich.
